Why MicroTower Exists

Every innovation begins
with a problem worth solving

"Why shouldn't every airport, regardless of size or budget, have access to the same critical safety information?"

MicroTower AATAS was not conceived in a laboratory or developed to follow an industry trend. It was born from two real-world aviation incidents that exposed a critical gap in airport infrastructure.

In 1993, pilot and aviation entrepreneur David Wartofsky experienced an IFR departure where a radio failure went undetected until he was airborne in instrument conditions, leaving him temporarily unable to communicate with Air Traffic Control. Later that same year, during a night arrival at another non-towered airport, he encountered conflicting weather reports from surrounding airports, with no reliable way to determine the actual wind conditions at the destination runway.

Those experiences revealed a fundamental reality: thousands of airports lacked access to the essential information pilots depend on most: accurate local weather, reliable radio verification, and timely operational advisories. The gap existed not because the technology was unavailable, but because existing systems were too expensive, too complex, and too difficult to deploy.

Instead of replicating the cost and complexity of traditional airport infrastructure, MicroTower was engineered to deliver the information that truly matters through a compact, autonomous platform. Solar-powered, satellite-connected, AI-driven, and accessible over the airport's existing VHF frequency, it provides pilots with real-time weather observations, radio confidence checks, runway recommendations, crosswind and wind-shear alerts, and intelligent airport advisories.

Today, MicroTower AATAS represents a new approach to airport safety infrastructure: making advanced situational awareness practical, affordable, and accessible for airports that have historically operated without it.
